Default how to disinfect a funtainer thermos jar

I left some food in there and didn't get to cleaning it till a couple of days, and needless to say, the food had gone bad. I eventually just washed it with hot water and soap but haven't used it since because I'm not sure it's really clean. Anyway I can get it cleaner? it's a thermos made of steel and has a plastic type of cap with a rubber ring for insulation. thanks...

I think the diswasher would be sufficient. It may take the decoration off the outside, but Thermos says they are top-rack dishwasher safe.

    Here's the Thermos page: http://thermos.com/careuseFUNtainer_Food_Jar.aspx

It says "All parts are top rack dishwasher safe; however, hand washing is recommended for best results."
