Default How long do kids use teethers?

I'm (already) trying to think up xmas presents for DN(eice). She will be 10.5 months at Christmas and I was thinking I might get her a Sophie the Giraffe (DD loves hers, SIL wanted to buy one but was horrified by the price) as part of her present. Is 10.5 months too late for that?

hmm, i don't know, i guess it depends on the baby and when his/her teeth come in. my son is 8 months and starting to "outgrow" Sophie, he definitely doesn't play with it as much as he used to. he still does use teethers though, as his top teeth are coming in right now. he prefers much harder things to teethe on though (like those plastic links)..Sophie is kind of soft. i think around 4-5 months (when his first teeth were coming in) DS was addicted to sophie, but now, not so much. could have been that he just gets bored of things too.

Thanks Ms Pacman. I should have prefaced that DN is 7 months now and has no teeth yet. MIL told me that all of her kids got teeth really late (my DH was toothless until 10 months!!).

I think Sophie is supposed to be best for 4-10 months. In truth, I remember my DD chewing on the cold refrigerated teethers for quite a while, including when her molars came in. But Sophie isn't exactly that kind of toy. So in truth I think 10.5 months is a little old, but I have no BTDT experience with Sophie and an older kid. My 4 month old loves hers though!

Do you know if she even has teeth yet? DS didn't get teeth until 10 months, and only has 4 now at one year. He hasn't really shown interest in teethers at all, but he does like Sophie. We keep her on the highchair for dinner play since she's a nice, soft toy for him to throw down on the tile floor.
