Default what age to cut own fingernails/toenails?

DS1 is 7 and still doesn't cut his own fingernails/toenails. He wants to, but the one time I let him try, his fingers weren't strong enough to push the clippers, and I was afraid he'd hurt himself.

What age are they strong enough to do this themselves?

DS1 has preferred to do his own for probably 6 months to a year now? He's 6.5.

I was just wondering this same thing a while ago. DS1 has some fine motor and motor planning issues so I don't foresee him doing it himself anytime in the near future. He just turned 7.

    Default 6.5

My DS is 6.5 and he cuts his own fingernails and toenails. He just decided one day. It is so nice to have one less person that I need to worry about for this task.

I can't imagine it will be anytime soon here. My 7yo still has trouble buckling his car seat.
