Can anyone recommend a handheld or mini-vacuum that works well for carpeted stairs? I'm currently lugging my entire unit up one stair at a time to clean and it's a PITA. Thanks!

We have this one:
Eureka 71B Hand-Held Vacuum
I it. As much as one can love a hand-held vac 
It has a feature where you can flip the plastic brush cover up or down to do the front side of the steps without having to turn the vacuum sideways or upside down. Brilliant.

Yes...this is the best, most powerful hand-held vacuum I've ever used. The power brush makes it clean a lot better than most. You won't be disappointed.
