    Default Hello and thanks

I was sure I did this before, but I guess I didn't (baby brain!)

My name is Lucia, and we are expecting our first son Alex for February 2011
this forum has been really helpful. As a first time mom I am completely clueless
and have been working too much to get anything done for the baby.
Finally last weekend we started putting the nursery together, furniture ans some clothes/blankets is all we have
    Better start getting ready soon

    Thanks to everyone!!!

    Welcome and congrats!

No worries on the intro or the nursery. My oldest didn't have a nursery 'til she was 6 months old. My youngest didn't spend time in hers for about five months. If you've got a car seat, a place for Alex to sleep, some diapers, clothes, and Mylicon by the time he arrives, you'll be fine!

Mylicon is a anti-gas medication safe for newborns!

Please excuse my typos I am typing on my phone!

You've probably got two months, which is plenty of time, really!

Mylicon is medicine that relieves infant gas. I found it INDISPENSIBLE in the early days. DD#1 had very painful gas her first night home, and DD#2 had it too. Our ped. said that around 25% of babies get this from dairy in mom's diet, but lots of other things can cause it too.

There are two car seats that come most highly recommended here. They've changed since we bought ours, so I'll let someone else answer that question. When DH's co-workers offered to throw a shower, they got us gift cards to buy our car seat. That was very nice!

We used a Pack 'n Play with a bassinet in our room for the first several months for both girls. So we didn't need to have any nursery furniture.

If you have any questions, don't hesitate to ask. The people here love to help, and we've all been where you are. . . that's a big part of why I've stayed after I did my car seat research!

    Hi
I will get some Mylicon! I heard also infant tylenol just in case?
The only reason I have furniture is because my parents gave it to us as a gift (first grandchild on both sides, granparents going gaga).
I was thinking about getting Graco Snugride 35 as a car seat, going to buy buy baby next week to check stuff out

    Have fun!

Another vote for the Pac n Play, just fyi. We had all the nursery furniture good to go but used the pac n play w/bassinet in our bedroom for the 1st 5 months. A blessing!

(Re car seat - if you haven't already, you might check out the discussions about buying the infant bucket seats vs going straight to a convertible one. For us, the SnugRide would have been way too heavy and cumbersome. But that's just us.)

Happy shopping. I bet you'll get nothing but baby gear for Christmas!

I am getting a mini co-sleeper, pack and play is too big for my room!

Regarding car seats, I heard that infant car seats are still much better safety wise than convertibles for little ones.
I think I rather buy two car seats for that reason, even if I end up not taking the whole thing out of the car after he is 3 months, which is likely what I will end up doing. I will go check out car seats tomorrow, I am not set in anything in particular anyway.
