Default Quick! How do I get rid of the raw onion smell in my house?

We are having a lunch playgroup, and my house reeks from the really strong raw onion I chopped. REEKS. I went to the gym this morning, and practically fell over when I walked back into the house.

It's cold out so I can't open the windows (for long, anyway). Baking soda? Candles? Room spray? HELP!

I'd just open the windows. A little cold air never hurt.

If you have cinnamon sticks, put them in a pan of simmering water on your stove- it smells great and no harmful components are released into the air. Just don't forget about it or people will start to ask what's burning.

I think boiling a little vinegar will get rid of just about any smell.

Turn on your vent fan over the stove (assuming it actually vents outside). You can also turn them on in your bathrooms to help clear out the air.

ETA: If you turn your vent fans on and open even 1 window a little bit you'll be amazed at how much air gets circulated through the house. Good luck raw onion smell is never fun.

If you have Pine Sol, set out a bowl of it on your kitchen counter. It will take any bad smell out quickly.

Thank you for all the quick replies! I opened the little kitchen window and turned the oven fan on... I thought I had some cinnamon sticks left but they must have gotten used up this winter. No PineSol either Do you think I can use a little powdered cinnamon on the stove? With vinegar?

I've simmered cinnamon and cloves (in water) before, smells good!

Do you have lemons? Boiling lemon slices helps too.

Or bake something that smells good (like cookies, bread), that will cover it up.

I've sprinkled cinnamon on a cookie sheet and baked that in the oven for a short time. That's gotten rid of fish smell....I would think it would work with onion.
