Like several PPs, I have a Stanley YA crib (cost = $475, on sale), and have been very happy with it (it's currently in use by DD#2). Our "nursery" set consisted of crib, a standard dresser (with changing pad mounted on top) and bookcase (plus a rocking chair we already owned). DD#1 is using the same dresser and bookcase in her big girl room (along with a matching twin bed and nightstand), and will until she leaves home.

Could I have lived without the matching crib - absolutely (although I do love it so)! (And would I have lived without it for $1000 - yes, I would, since I wanted a stroller, too! (I have an MBUS, also in use by DD#2.)) But I'm very, very happy to have purchased "regular" furniture for my nursery that I can continue to use. (And for what it's worth, we've bought additional Stanley YA furniture from the same line for DD#2.)

Just wanted to give everyone an update.

I can't believe this, but we found the exact Young American crib my wife wanted, but dark brown instead of white, in the back of a store in the clearance section. It had a wobbly foot that I will easily be able to fix.

    $300!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I'm totally blown away. I just can't believe it.

Thank you everyone for all your help! You are all amazing!

Haven't read all the posts but, consider this....

We went to the top of our budget for a Million Dollar Baby/Da Vinci. I loved it.

DD hated it from day 1. She hated being in a crib AT ALL. The day she turned 2, we moved her in to a full size bed. She has been happy ever since.

But you can't go for 2 years without sleeping, so she slept mostly with us, because she HATED her crib. HATED IT. You just have no idea how much personality and opinion they have, even when they are days old.

Maybe help your wife see what she can spend the other $750 on if you buy a more reasonably priced crib.
