Default Whole Oats vs Whole Corn? (cereal question)

I've been looking for a healthy dry cereal for my 1 yo to snack on. I want to get something that is primarily "whole grain"... my question is, which is better... whole oats or whole corn? Cheerios are whole oats and Kix is whole corn. My gut tells me the cheerios are better, but I really have no idea.

As long as it is a whole grain does that mean that it isn't a "simple carb" and therefore is a better snack choice than say saltines etc?

Oats are much better for you than corn, for many reasons. Corn processes more like a simple carb, and increases insulin output. Oats are a slow release carb that are good for your heart and stick with you longer. They are also less allergenic than corn. Also, most corn is genetically modified (GMO)--I steer clear of GMO foods for health reasons. Oats are not currently a GMO food in the U.S.

And yes, if it is a whole grain, then it is not a simple carb.
