We bought DD a beautiful bedroom set from Haverty's in Fairfax. It's not actually a kid's set, but we figure she can take it with her when she moves out. It's a queen 4 poster bed in an espresso finish and we've been thrilled with the quality and customer service. I had never heard of this chain before moving to NoVA and while much of there stuff is not really my style - I love this bedroom set.

My girls got iron beds by http://www.wesleyallen.com/
We paid a MUCh lower price by shopping for them at a local place though.

The furniture in my DD's room is all from IKEA: Meldal daybed, Malm dresser, and a 4x2 Expedit.

We have had some friends that started with mattress on the floor and did that for six or so months while the kids got used to not rolling off. And then they transitioned to the bed. If you tried that it would ease the shopping burdren and spread out the expense . . . you could get mattresses now and then bed frames later.

My DS's crib has a feature where it converts to a semi-enclosed toddler bed with one open side so we have been doing that. But, I will probably end up getting him an ikea hemnes for the underneath storage. If I don't do that I will get headboard only - - I actually think that the full bed frame makes rooms seem smaller and we are dealing with small rooms/limited storage.

Young America all seasons full slat bed in white with a trundle- from Furnitureland South. We have it on the hi lock position so the trundle fits under. It is so nice. IL's got our nursery/bedroom furniture for us so we just replaced her non-convertible crib and were done.

DD1 had a a regular twin mattress and box spring on a metal frame (until she moved to the bunk bed with DD2). I think this twin will be DS's bed. Maybe I'll get a headboard from Target that he can put his books in and stuff- when I actually boot him out of the crib. I'm totally torn about it. He is so comfy in it and he doesn't climb out. Meanwhile, DD3 outgrew the portacrib, and she's sleeping in a pack n play. I refuse to buy another crib because DS is already almost 2.5.

We went "shopping" in my parent's garage.

They have matching twin maple beds stored away, so we took 1 for DD's bed.
