Default Which gate would you recommend

What brand and model of safety gate would you recommend based on your experiences?
We're looking for safety first (duh!), durable, and easy to use (one handed opening etc.). We need two for tops of stars, one for the bottom of our stairs and one that protects a one step down to our tiled foyer (so probably pressure mounted ok).
Also if you've had really bad experiences with certain brands/models that would be helpful too.
    Thanks!

I loved my Kidco gates: Safeway (wall-mounted for top of stairs) and Gateway for the bottom (pressure mounted with a swinging gate you can open one-handed). Pricey but you might try to buy used off Craigslist.

Another vote for the Safeway. Yes, a bit pricey, but worth it. Sturdy construction. Reliable latching (well...we'll see how that goes once Penny is older ).

Adults are just obsolete children and the hell with them.

Avoid evenflo. We have one in a doorway at my moms that gets light use and its bending to the point it doesnt function just from the pressure of being mounting.

We love The First Years hands-free foot pedal gate, have used three of them for years. Even after my son started walking, I always had stuff in my hands. Also, he once he figured it out, he didn't have enough weight to open it.

Question for the people who like the retract-a-gate; do you have children over 24 months? I'd love to get one, but my little guy is a year, and I'd like to have something that will last a bit longer then just another 12 months.

Default Best Gates for TOP of the Stairs with Two Bannisters

    Hi All
We have a need for a Tall Gate for the top of the stairs

    40 3/4 wide x 37 " high

The hard part is the 37" high part

We don't want to drill into our bannister

We would be happy with a strap system

Summer Infant Care has something close but its not tall enough
Please let me know if you have any recommendations

    Thanks
    K
