A baby carrier for a petite mom- needs to be easy to transfer baby

Hello,

My nephew is about a month old, 10 lbs. What is a good carrier for my sister to use? She has a Moby wrap, but she said the problem is it is hard to transfer the baby to the bed. It doesn't have a high "popability" factor :-)

Long time ago, I had a ring sling, but I felt it was too big for me. We are petite, about 5'2", 110 lbs. I then got a hotsling after DS was a bit bigger. My DH liked the Baby Bjorn. I think Baby Bjorn probably was best for transfering a sleeping baby. It doesn't seem to get very good review though.

I have looked at thebabywearer.com site, and I am overwhelmed by the choices! I know it is not easy to find one that fits everyone.

The bjorn killed my back, so I would stay away from that one. It sounds like you are looking for a buckle carrier (soft structured carrier, aka SSC). Have you looked at the beco or pikkolo?

I would recommend the Pikkolo: I did many a transfer with my newborn, and I still use it daily at 13 months!

I am petite with narrow shoulders and loved the Ergo but found it wanted to slip off my shoulders. I prefer the pikkolo for that reason, when you front carry, the straps are crossed in the back so it feels more secure for me.

I am petite and love my sleepywrap. Definitely no transferability though. I suppose having tthe baby securewhen you are carrying him precludes easy transferability.

There's a little pocket you slip the baby's torso into, then you lift the carrier and baby and put it on. It's the easiest carrier ever. Wicked expensive but worth it - will last through toddlerhood.

Or, pouches like the hotsling are highly "poppable" too.

I'd recommend looking at the Beco Gemini, too--I'm about the same height and build as you, and I LOVE my Gemini.
