I had my 1 hr test 2 weeks ago. The nurse told me I didn't have to fast (not my Dr's regular nurse). But when the doc saw me he told me to fast. He said the official recommendations do not include fasting anymore, however, he has many more women fail the 1 hr test if they don't fast. He figures no one wants to spend 3 hrs being tested again, so he ALWAYS recommends fasting before the test (and therefore recommends coming into the lab ASAP in the morning to do the test). Our clinic/hospital allows you to come into the lab anytime between 7 am and 8 pm as long as the Dr's orders have been sent down to the lab. It is pretty nice.

I fasted before both tests (1hr with #1 and 2 hr with this one). I say it's worth it to avoid a false fail. Take your test early morning so just means skipping breakfast.

I am at the lab now. The lab manager said they hear all the time that people get mixed instructions. She said they just ask that you do not eat sugars or carbs
the day of and fast for 2 hours before.

I was told to eat my normal breakfast for the morning. They told me that if I didn't eat or if I ate something different that it really wouldn't be an accurate results with how my body would typically respond to the extra sugar.

But the test isn't about processing *extra* sugar, it's about processing sugar, period. What does your body do with x amount of glucose? Not x amount of glucose on top of whatever you normally eat.

    Same here. I'd fast.

With both of my pregnancies I only did a 3 hr. glucose test and I fasted for both of those, it wasn't that hard.

I fasted in the a.m. and made sure that I ate lower carb/higher protein the night before. No big pasta meals that will spike insulin levels.
