    Default train set help

a while ago we bought ds the train set from ikea-to see if he would like trains etc. well he really likes trains and i think its time to expand so can you guys help me navigate the very confusing world of train buying.

is thomas worth it? how do the sets work? do you need to buy everything seperatly to have enough trains to play with (I feel like the sets come with 1 or 2 trains each) do all the different brands go together? what are resonable prices (for retail and used)

any advice would be very helpful!!!!!

p.s-ds will be 3 in october

All wooden trains are compatible. I felt Thomas was worth it when my DS was obsessed in trains. The quality was very nice and they are one of the few toys I have hung on to. I would start off with something like the Thomas figure 8 and maybe 1-2 extra trains (let DC choose, that's the best part!) and go from there.
