Default the perfect comfort food for a cold...

    ....hands-down, is g-mama's chicken & dumpling soup!!
    http://windsorpeak.com/vbulletin/sho...+dumpling+soup

came down with a cold yesterday and i thought of this soup (with all this hot weather this summer, it's been a while!). just made it today and YUM. DS gobbled it up, even the chicken and he almost *never* eats chicken or any meat! I put some of the broth in his straw cup and he downed it that way too. DH loved it as well, and i had to insist to leave some for ME, the sick one

anyway, just thought i'd share, and spread the word, this soup is amazing.

That soup is AWESOME. Just AWESOME. DH and I love it but unfortunately can't get the girls to agree. I like to put extra shredded carrots in - it seems to thicken the soup and I just like to sneak in extra veggies wherever I can.

I have 3 keeper recipes from the BBB so far: this soup, and these from sunshineandme and boolady:

I have made this and it is a favorite around here, too. I can't get the dumplings right, though. They always break up. What am I doing wrong??

I'm making this soup now... can't wait to taste it, it smells so good! I have a question though: can you saute the onion/carrot in the stock pot before adding the stock and the chicken? What's the reasoning behind doing it in a separate pan and then adding it? Just wondering if I can save myself from having to clean an extra pan next time!

Ooh thank you for reminding me of this soup! Everyone is fighting colds here, and I think this is now on the menu tomorrow night.

Has anyone tried this with skinless chicken? For example, chicken breasts?

Thank you, G Mama, for this recipe!

I just made it tonight for dinner and it is fantastic. Can't wait to eat the leftovers tomorrow. Yum yum.

Just saw this thread - so glad so many are enjoying it! I haven't made it yet this fall and I really need to! Looks like I know what's for dinner tomorrow night.

Yes, I'm pretty sure the recipe calls for boneless, skinless chicken breasts, but I mentioned that I sometimes use a rotisserie chicken and use more meat than just the breasts.
