confused by Lands End Mitten sizes

I measured DD's hands and ordered a kids large for her. I think her hands are fairly large for her age - I expect she'll need a women's small in the next year or so. The mittens arrived today and are enormous. They are the right size for me! My hands are huge - I need extra large women's sizes and have a difficult time finding gloves.

Has any one else had this issue?

Yes! I ran into this problem last year. I was also disappointed with the fit of the therma check (fleece) ones- way too narrow.
