DH and I are thinking about starting to buy some Playmobil sets for DS2 starting this Christmas. I never bought any for DS1, and I'm overwhelmed with the huge selection. What are some of your boys' favorites?

DS2 age 11 years
It depends on what your DS likes, but when our DS was 4, I got him a very small Playmobil dungeon (I don't see it on their site). He loved this and we next got the Rock Castle (I also don't see this). But...by far the most played with toy in the house for 3 years going...is the Lions Knight Castle.

It seems like they have changed their design a bit (different colors etc) and ours doesn't look quite like this. It is expensive, but worth every penny for us. Over the years, I have bought more accessories and people off of ebay to balance out the number of men and weapons! DS is very into the battles, but the King and Queen can also be found having a picnic with their fine china! The Falcon Knights Castle also looks neat.
You might want to start out with something "smaller" to see if your DS likes it...I like how this one looks (and I know that the little cannon really shoots far):

DS also has some smaller things from the Egyptian "line" like the chariot, battling tower and catapult.
I am realizing that I am pointing you towards all of the battle things...hmmm...if you would rather stay away from weapons, then maybe the Wildlife Care Station?? http://store.playmobilusa.com/on/dem...26&cgid=Afrika
Our Police Station is the one thing that hasn't gotten much love.
Whatever you get, PUT IT TOGETHER AHEAD OF TIME!!! This is not the sort of thing, like legos, that the kids put together themselves or with you. We learned the hard way!

My 7 year old DD who is a huge playmobil fan loves the new Secret Agent line! We have the big set that has the front office/back secret mission room.
As for putting them together, my 12 year old DS enjoys putting them together (he doesn't want to play with them but loves to build it) and he has built everything we have. If your older son is/was into legos he should be able to build playmobils easily. Maybe your older one might enjoy it as well.

At your DS's age, my DS1 loved all of the knights and castles. He is very imaginative and would play for hours and hours with those toys. He still does! Next he got into pirates, then firefighters and police. He still loves all of them and recently is really into the police and top agent lines. The top agent stuff was designed for older kids--I think the boxes said 6-12 to keep their interest we love all playmobil here really.

Could you please tell me more about the Secret Agent Playmobil? DS LOVES it in the catalog but I have no idea what to purchase. I suspect this will be the big gift (potentially multiple purchases from each set of grandparents...plus Santa...).
I would appreciate any feedback - TIA!

I asked DS his thoughts - he is seven and the ONLY toy he requests is still Playmobil.
He said that it would be best to start with the knights or pirates. He said that is the way that he first "experienced Playmobil" (!). He said that once he learned about how the sets worked, he then felt ready to make more choices. Just to warn you, we have the circus, the school, the vet, the farm...several pirates, knights, etc. It is a lot, yes, but aside from board games and books, it is honestly the only toy (actually, the only item other than CLOTHING) that we and others close to us buy for him. DS is an only child and amuses himself for hours...like in the recent, freak snowstorm that left us without power for a week. In addition, other kids come over and love to play with Playmobil. Pirates were a great starting point because he loved books like "How I Became a Pirate". He was even a pirate that Halloween. All this is to say that you can follow your DS2's lead. Whatever interest him outside of Playmobil is a great way to get started.
Good luck!

No sets to recommend BUT I would say check out Home Goods for Playmobil, they had sets out for the holidays when I was there a few days ago. (Which means TJMaxx and Marshalls might have some, too.)
