    For us...

Sadly, DS (14 months) is a bit too young this year to care or really need much... all he got from us was a Thomas the Train (James) big push train, and some new sippy cups and toothbrushes. I did get him a Christmas book earlier in December, and he got some new onesies from my mom, which I had asked for.

    DD (3):

WANT- Frosted Flakes , Ring Pops & Andes mints in her stocking, Toby the train (she also wanted Edward and didn't get him from anyone, so I may still get her that)
NEED- toothbrushes, new undies (Hello Kitty, though, which she loves), Crane animal humidifier for her room
    WEAR- pjs and some pants
READ- "The Night Before Christmas" audio book from Hallmark that my mom had narrated- super cute and I'm so glad she did this without me even asking! Also another book earlier in December.
Also got her a green (fav. color) Strider bike from the recent sale- she seems to like it, so I hope it ends up being a hit.

    DD2 - 6 weeks

    Need: Nosefrida
    Wear: 0-6m Pedipeds

This was our first year trying the want/need/wear/read, and DH and I both really liked it. I think we'll do it again next year. The kids didn't seem to notice that there was less than previous years, and they both *loved* their "want" gifts. They opened new Christmas jammies on Christmas Eve night, and an ornament on Christmas morning as well.

We have done this every year and have always received sh*t from extended family about not getting her enough. It felt so good this year when my mom finally said she gets it after seeing all the excess at my sister's house. she also said my DD seemed to appreciate everything she opened instead of just tearing through presents.

    DD (age 5):

want: American Girl doll and an AGD outfit
need: thermal underwear and a cork board for her room
wear: AGD doll and me nightgown
read: Marie Claire book set and magic school bus human body book

stocking: underwear, socks, ramona and beezus, and organic gummies.

    T, age 8.5:

Want: iPod (recycled) with Lego Life of George to use with it.
    Need: Bike Helmet
Wear: Stega-soar shirt from threadless and a blue handmade scarf.
Read: Wrinkle in time box set of all 5 books.

    F, age 3:

    Want: Leapster Explorer
Need: Dinosaur bedding (recycled)+ hoodie because he needs warm shirts and the bedding is not going to be used for awhile as we are still keeping him in his crib for now.
Wear: Stega-soar shirt from threadless and a blue handmade scarf.
Read: Mo Williams books: We are in a Book and Should I Share my Ice Cream?

We do the W/W/R/N thing for the gifts from us. Though we did not get clear on that till this year. So they each got some things from Santa but not a ton! We only do multiple gifts for Christmas with usually 1-2 gifts for birthdays. The were both into each and everything they opened and were appreciative and took their sweet time so that was good to see.

The girls are a bit too young to really get this, but I think I will incorporate it next year. There was less excess from my family this year and I am glad. So it was not so bad, but I don't feel the kids appreciate the gifts when they get so much at once. 3-4 gifts per child is perfect.

I didn't adhere to it completely but this is how it was supposed to go :

    DD (newly 5)
want: doll closet/armoire (our generation doll trunk from target)
    need: dance bag
    wear: matching doll/girl PJs
    read: Berenstain Bears books

    DS1 (7.5, almost 8)
    want: nerf gun
    need: new tee shirts
    wear: nerf tactical vest
read: Finally giving him the green light on Harry Pottery (I have a copy and will read it for the first time at the same time he's reading...we each have our own copy). He also got a copy of the Mad Scentists' Club book. http://www.amazon.com/Mad-Scientists...5038457&sr=8-1

I didn't adhere to it at all with DS2.

The older kids also got Kinect and games to share, a board game each, and a few other unplanned things.

We do a variation of this. We have Santa bring three gifts and we give three gifts: want, need, read. They each got some gifts from my parents and a present from a godparent, but they don't get much else from others at Christmas or much the rest of the year. We do a big Christmas.

    DS - 5yo

Want- Leapfrog Explorer Camera and Cars 2 game
Read -2 Lego Star Wars books
Need- A StarWars Playmat/storage bag (to keep them out of DD reach) and Star Wars themed sleeping pants, slipper socks, winter hat and underwear. (All things he really needed)

    DD - 3 1/2 months

    Want- BlaBla Knit Bear Doll
Read - Usborne Touchy Feely Book "That is not my Reindeer"
    Need - Temporal Thermometer
    Amy -
    J - Spring 2006
    E - September 2011
