Default What was baby's first food and when did you start it?

DD had avocado as her first food at 4 1/2 months. I tossed out all the cereals a week later after I tasted them.

DD had a taste of peach and nectarine at 4 months, but we didn't start solids officially 'til 6 or 7 months.

We gave her bread and guacamole a lot when she was first starting.

I wasn't comfortable with starting anything at 4 months - DD still had her tongue-thrust reflex and she wasn't sitting up independently. It made me intensely uncomfortable that I'd be spooning cereal into a critter who couldn't sit up on her own ... and the waste from the tongue-thrust didn't appeal to me, either.

I donated the unopened box of cereal that I bought to a food drive at the office.

Mashed banana at 6.5 months (not terribly fond of it), shortly after tried avocado (didn't like that either) then pureed pumpkin (she loved it!)

Well, we tried to get DS1 to eat rice cereal at 6 mo...but I'm certain that NOTHING ended up in his mouth. He taught us that we needed to do BLW and at 6.5 mo he was trying avocado & toast. Much better result. He was sucking on steak shortly after that!

DS- Avocado at 4 months. He was sooo ready to eat

DD- Rice cereal at 4 months, just this week.

We planned to wait a few months for for DD, but she has been sooo interested in food and met the physical milestones. She's not taking the bottle well still and I decided to try spooning BM into her mouth. Then I tried adding some cereal in to thicken it up and she loved it. We had to grab the camera after I started - these milestones are so less of a big deal with #2 than with #1.
