Default Any easy formula for converting crockpot times?

Like x hours high = x hours low = x hours keep warm? I scorched some lovely sounding French country smoked sausage and beans last night due to the 3 hours it had to keep warm which dried out all the liquid.

My crockpot cookbook says that 8-9 hours on low = 4-5 hours on high.

I usually do everything on high since I always forget to start it in the morning and don't put it on till noon or 2pm!

I never really use the warm feature, except for when the kids and I have already eaten and DBF is not home yet so I'll keep it on warm for him. But only for about an hour. If he's not home by then I'll transfer everything to a pyrex and put it in the fridge.

I'm usually away from home for at least 10 hours during the day, so i have to anticipate 10-12 hours in the crock pot!
