Default 2.5 yo biting nails -- help!

Isn't 2.5 years old a bit young to start nail-biting? It's worrying me because I hope it doesn't mean he's stressed out or anything like that. He likes to chew on things, in general, and I'm okay with that for the most part, but I don't want him biting his nails so short and also getting all those hand-germs in his mouth. Any advice or tips? I'd love to help him drop the habit right away so he doesn't continue doing it into his childhood.

My DS went through a brief phase at about the same age. We told him not to do it but did not make a big fuss. When we saw him biting, we'd clip his nails. He'll only pick or bite at them now when they get long. In our case it was not an anxiety reaction. It probably won't be in your case either.
