Default no diaper safe detergent? Emergency alternative?

I am still waiting for my Rockin Green detergent (looks like possibly after Thanksgiving delivery) and in the meantime, I REALLY need to wash a load of dipes. Is there anything I can use as an alternative that can be easily obtained at home or a local store? I have Wegmans, Walmart, and Target nearby. I have ALL Free and Clear at home, as well as regular HE Tide (which I know should NOT be used). What about baking soda, vinegar, oxyclean, dawn? ANything else??

I use baking soda & vinegar to do my pre-wash (no soap) and only use OxyClean every now and again if my diapers need a good sanitizer run.

I think you can get Ecover at both Target & Wegman's; it's rated pretty well at this site:

I would NOT use Dawn unless you needed to strip your diapers.

How much baking soda/vinegar do you add? Is yours an HE washer? I'll run to Wegs once my LOs wake up. THANK YOU!!!

Regular Tide is a popular choice amond CD users. I've also used Planet and Ecover.

Regular tide is ok? Really? Does reg mean no bleach, no softeners (Downey), no sport febreeze, etc?

Yep, the regular with nothing added is fine and preferred by MANY CD users. Just ask over at diaperswappers for their fave detergent and Tide is a clear winner.

Oh wow, I'm sorry I missed this question.

I add maybe 1/8c to 1/4c to the drum (I have an HE front loader) and then put the vinegar into the softener & bleach dispensers, so maybe a max of 1/8 cup each in the pre-wash, which I actually do using the HOT wash/COLD rinse water temperature ... plus the "water plus" setting - it seems to work out OK for us.

I don't use special detergent, just whatever was on sale.

    Rinse
Hot wash with Tide up to the #1 line
    Rinse + second rinse

I also think 1-2 times with All Free and Clear isn't going to hurt anything either.

But yep, regular Tide is the clear favorite on Diaperswappers. I don't use it because we're a "green and natural" type of family, but many, many people love Tide for diapers!
