    Default Substitution for plain yogurt

I'm making a greek chicken dish tonight that uses a couple of tablespoons of yogurt in the sauce/marinade to keep the cut up chicken breasts moist as they bake. The flavors are cumin, chili powder, garlic, etc., and the sauce is clear, not creamy. I forgot to buy plain yogurt. I have sour cream and vanilla yogurt. Which should I use to substitute? I also have an unmixed pear yogurt with the fruit on the bottom, but I hate to waste that yogurt to pillage the plain yogurt from the top. Do I need to do that?

Sour cream. Or evaporated milk if you have any.

Definitely sour cream. You could also "make" buttermilk: 1 TB lemon juice or vinegar mixed with 1 cup milk. That probably would work as well.
