    Default C8 Sciences Activate program?

    Has anyone tried this program?

    http://www.c8sciences.com/

It's a "brain training" program, seems like somewhere between Luminocity and CogMed. Supposed to help with attention and executive function.

The home program is "pay what you feel like" which is different, but it looks like if you pay $0 they anticipate making money off assessments. Doesn't seem like there is a downside, but I wondered if anyone has used it?

I haven't seen c8sciences, but we discussed programs like Luminosity in one of my Neuro classes in the SLP Masters program. My professor said there's no evidence based research that brain training programs generalize from the trained activity into daily life. You can get quite good at the computer activity, but it doesn't transfer over. She hammered into us that therapy activities need to be real world as possible. eg. if working on executive functioning, our activity should be something the client does in their real life and to go through the steps of planning, execution and review with them. Start with smaller task with only a few steps, increase complexity of tasks/steps as client progresses etc.

This article sums up what we discussed:

I have heard of C8 but have not looked into it or tried it. I have researched cognitive skill training programs in general, and it seems a lot of practice is required before any real gains are made - like daily for 6-12 months. I know of some people who claim these types of programs really helped their kids, and others who said nothing transferred over. I do think cognitive skill programs are best pursued after other more fundamental sensory-type therapies are complete - like OT for example.
