Default When to let LO's legs hang to the side

When is it ok to let my baby's legs stretch out to the side in my K'Tan and ergo carriers? I have the heart to heart insert for ergo and she doesn't mind curling her legs up inside, but with the K'Tan she doesn't like the newborn carry cuz she's too confined. She's 2 months adjusted age but 4 months actual. Her neck is pretty strong but head can still be a bit floppy. The K'Tan video says I can bring up one of the shoulders over her head if she falls asleep. But what I'm really worried about is whether she's ready to have her legs spread to the sides. Below is a pic of her in the K'Tan. TIA!

Current thinking in babywearing circles is to have baby's legs positioned in the "spread squat" position so the bum comes down creating an "M" shape with the knees being the top points of the "M" and the bum being the downslope.

So, you can unfroggy her legs & do the spread-squat at any time.

    Did that make sense?

Yes I think I get it. Essentially her knees should be a bit higher than her bum and as long as she's comfortable, she can have her legs come out the sides of the carrier?

    Thank you!!
