What do you use when potty training? A small, separate potty? A small seat for the big potty? Or just sit on the big potty seat itself?

We really liked the Baby Bjorn potty - I think it came highly recommended here. Then graduated to the Baby Bjorn toilet seat.

We've used both the bjorn little potties as well as the bjorn potty ring. My dd seemed to prefer the little potty and ds was such a big guy, he just liked to use the big white potty.
Though, when dd was ready to use the big potty, it was nice to have the potty ring to keep her from falling in.
Summer Infant makes a little potty like the Bjorn one but costs less. We have a couple. I keep one in our family room and one in DD's room. It makes life much easier because I can tend to the baby and she can help herself to the potty without my help. We also have soft insert seats with ducks (ordered off Amazon). She loves sitting on the big potty with the insert. If I am able to help, she often chooses that. With a baby and potty training, I recommend lots of options.
We used and liked the bjorn when they were first potty training at 2. After they were a little bigger and had the hang of it, we got rid of the separate potty and installed these, which are awesome!

For a floor potty, we really love the Fisher Price Froggy Potty. http://www.amazon.com/Fisher-Price-B...s=froggy+potty
I used it with DS1 and we are now introducing it to DSS3. It's cheap, has only 2 pieces so no place for ick to get stuck, is easy to clean, and is cute and appeals to little kids.
