Neck rash

My nephew is 2.5 months old & has developed a neck rash. It's very red & shiny. I watch him while my sister is at school and I keep his neck dry. We have been using Aquaphor but it's not getting any better. Is there something else we can try before going to the doctor? It also smells when we clean it, could it be yeast? Neither of my kids ever had this so I'm not sure what else we should try. It doesn't seem to bother him. He has started drooling a lot the last week or so but we keep his neck as dry as possible.
