We're attending a wedding the beginning of September at Samoset in Maine. We were thinking of traveling there from Boston - only a three hour drive if we drive straight through - but would love to meander over a few days to see that part of the country. What are some "must stop" stops we should make? I have three super outdoorsy boys and they are so excited about the trip. TIA!

Staying off of 95 and driving route 1 is an easy start! Do you want to stay close to the coast or head inland?
I am on my phone, so I will add some specifics later, but September is my favorite time of year in Maine! Not as hot, less crowded...DS1 June 2009

I'm open to coast or inland, but don't know when we will be back that way to visit so want to hustle and bustle to see as much as we can rather than totally unplug for a few days in one location. New Hampshire and Vermont are two states DC have been begging to visit so I want to make that work, too.
