I haven't made them in the dehydrator but here's a microwave version my kids love. They feel like they are getting a treat when we have chips with dinner.

A mandolin is really helpful and you need to watch them really carefully the first time to avoid burning them. The dehydrator is likely easier for bulk but if you don't have one or want just a few....

We really like homemade jerky made in the dehydrator. The store bought stuff kinda grosses me out but I really like homemade with meat from a local farm. I use this base recipe in the dehydrator. http://www.foodnetwork.com/recipes/a...ky-recipe.html

I decided to buy one with my shop your way reward points from the grilling deal, so I didn't have to lay out any cash to see if I'd like it...and...

We love it! We've only had the dehydrator a few days, but so far we've done cherries, pineapple, and watermelon. I don't think I can go back to buying commercially dried fruit now - this is just SO much tastier. The watermelon tastes like candy. We bought the Presto Dehydro with adjustable temp control. I want to dehydrate everything right now, but I'm super excited for our apple trees to produce lots of apples so I can make tons of apple chips!
