    And then also a Swing?

There's so much out there, it's so confusing! Thanks much!

No, I do not think you need a bouncer. It is a place to set the baby down for a few minutes. The Rock n Play also serves that purpose. The Rock n Play is a necessity if you have a baby with reflux as it keeps the baby more upright to sleep.

I'd try a swing before I'd buy one. Neither of my babies really took to a swing. See if you can borrow one, use it at the church nursery or at a playdate to see if your kid likes it. If you do get one, I'd go for a Fisher Price that goes side to side as well as back/forth. Plus see if you can find a plug in model as they can chew up batteries in a hurry if your kid really likes to swing.

Have you thought about a playmat? They work great for the baby to look at things at first and then get tummy time in.

For birth I'd get the following:
Somewhere to sleep (crib, pack n play, rock n play)
Somewhere to sit for a bit (rock n play, bouncer)
Something for tummy time (playmat, blanket with toys)

At three months I'd add something to aid in sitting up:

At four months or sitting up independently I'd add something to play in, that spins or bounces:

If I had to do it all over, I would skip the highchair and go straight to booster seat. It only has a three point harness versus a five point but takes up so much less space and less to clean up.

Most of the baby equipment is just used for a few weeks before they move on to the next stage. Please consider borrowing from friends/family or buying used.

Good luck in this adventure called parenthood!

I had a rock n play and a bouncer with DS and was happy to have both. He slept and napped upstairs in rock n play (he was a reflux kid) and we took it with us when we traveled bc it folded and was light. I used the bouncer more downstairs when he was awake and I was doing something and needed to put him down. Ours had some music and lights that both kids liked.

We had a swing too that was given to us as a gift for DD - DD loved it and then DS was luke warm about it. It took up a lot of space and we could have easily done without it for DS but we already had it.

We have both but no, I don't think they are both necessary. If you only get one, get the RnP. It is worth its weight in gold. DD1 had severe reflux and slept in it for a long, long time. For DD2, we used it as a bassinette downstairs when she was itty bitty, and now she sleeps it in ocasionally if she isn't feeling well/teething/ear infection (the angle helps things drain, plus I think she feels cozier and comforted because she is sort of nestled in there. We have the very first version of the RnP, and it hands down has been the best $50 we spent on baby gear.

I agree that you should try to borrow a swing before you buy one. Some kids love them and some hate them, and some kids just don't care. DD1 was meh on the swing. DD2 liked the one we borrowed so we bought one, but we rarely use it now.

Instead of the Bumbo, I reccomend this:

I semi-agree with MsKitty about skipping the high chair, but I don't recommend going right to a booster. Baby has to be able to sit pretty independently to use that (or maybe just because my kids are small and there is extra room on the sides, they slide a bit). I really like the FP Space Saver high chair because it can be used before baby can sit unassisted (it reclines, has a higher back, and is padded). The BBB exclusive version has non-fabric straps that are a cinch to clean (and as an added bonus, DD2 uses them as teethers).

It depends on how big your house is! and "need" is such a loaded term, you NEED very little but there is a lot that is nice to have.
We have two floors, so keep the RnP up in our bedroom for sleeping.
Bouncy seat downstairs in the kitchen for her to sit while I cook/do dishes/feed DS.
Swing in the living room where she takes naps.
Playmat in our bedroom so she can lay and play while I get dressed or put DS to bed.

In a smaller house you could more easily move stuff between rooms and would be more bothered by the more clutter.

I had both. You don't need both, but I found them helpful. The bouncer was for fun - I got one with lights and toys (FP Rainforest). The RNP was for naps and nighttime sleep or when I wanted her wind down and rock rather than be stimulated. It was also great for sitters to feed bottles in. Somehow the angle and no association with nursing helped her accept them.

I actually had 2 bouncers, a swing, and the RNP. Even though bouncers and the RNP are portable, it's not that easy dragging them around so I kept them all around the house.
