    Default Another wedding gift thread

We are attending a wedding on DH's side of the family soon and I'm really not sure how much to give / spend on the gift. We are fond of the couple and have spent time with them but since it is a destination wedding, it is not inexpensive for us to go. We live in a different city than the couple, but both live in HCOL areas if that matters and we will be attending with our kids. I was thinking of spending / giving $200 but I'm admittedly very out of touch with current wedding etiquette - it's been a long time since we went to one My friends are totally out of that stage Thoughts?

Per the other thread, you'll find $200 is my tippy top and it's reserved for really close family. I'd be in the $100-150 range on this.

ITA, $100-$150 is a good range.

We live in New England but not Boston metro area and had a kind of destination wedding 2 years ago. It was a very small wedding, just close family and a handful of friends. We did not expect gifts since we knew it was expensive to be there, but were very appreciative of those we got. Some arrived quite a bit after the wedding, but I do think everyone who attended gave or sent something. Gifts ranged from about $20 from friends on a budget to about $250 from aunt/uncle/cousins who have a very comfortable but not super rich income (not including our parents who gave a significant amount toward the down payment of our house a couple of months prior). We did not think any of those were out of line.

We usually give $200-500 for family. I would probably lean more towards $300 for a family member you spend time with, but aren't too close to. We went to a destination wedding of my cousin in the Bahamas and gave $300.

It really depends on how much you feel comfortable spending. I vote for $200, but if you want to spend more modestly, $100-150 is just fine.

If it's a destination wedding then, IMO, that changes it a bit. If I spend that much time and money to attend the wedding then I would adjust the gift down. I'd feel fine doing something around $100.
