Sorry, I just saw this. Yes, he has played before. Last August we had a "game room" at my family reunion with board games and a Wii. He played Wii sports (bowling, golf, tennis, baseball) and like it a lot. We also have some friends that just got a Wii U (they have a 5, 3 and 1 year old) and all the kids hung out and played Let's Dance and it was hilarious.

I chose the Wii U because it's one of the lesser expensive gaming units but it's best for family play. We got it so we can all play together (rather than giving him a Nintendo DS where he has channel vision and isn't interacting with anyone). I like the physical aspect of it because since you use body movement to play, most kids are jumping around the room and acting things out at the same time. We had a lot of fun with it.

Indoor basketball hoop: http://www.amazon.com/SKLZ-Pro-Mini-...asketball+hoop My boys love theirs; I think I heard about it a few years ago here on BBB.

This Franklin soccer rebounder is great for a 9-yo: http://www.amazon.com/Franklin-Sport...ccer+rebounder and the price is really good right now. We've had ours for three years and just need to replace the bungee loops now (but then we left it outside through a really rough winter last season instead of storing in the basement).

I am ISO a gently used AG for DD1. i found a beautiful, like new Josephina in her box for DD2 at a yard sale for $20. I am debating over doing Josephina plus yet to be purchased historical doll OR I have old TLC needed Samantha and Kirsten dolls. I have thought about rewigging and outfitting them as character dolls and saving Josephina for next year. Elsa and Anna or maybe Laura and Mary. I am thinking about roller skates or roller blades, but other than that I really don't have other ideas for the girls. I have a playmobile set or two from the big sale.

For DS, I just have no idea. He is such a wildcard. He doesn't typically play with toys. I have a soccer goal set aside so I will probably get him a small soccer ball. I might get him some little people or those little squatty star wars playskool toys, he does love those.

I just started looking. My girls don't have any ideas for once. They already have an AG doll and loads of accessories, an iPod, and a nook. I'm thinking about magnatiles or snap circuits because they always get rave reviews here and they're expensive if I want a couple sets.

DS is only four so he's pretty easy. Trucks and dinosaurs.

I wish I could get him interested in basketball! This is the one major (and weather appropriate sport for our area, ie, no hockey) that he has yet to really try but doesn't seem to have an interest in. He plays soccer, flag football and is on a swim team but has no real desire for basketball. He wasn't a huge fan of baseball either.

Maybe if I buy him a basketball goal/hoop he will enjoy just playing around with it even if he never wants to be on a team. I certainly don't need him to play on a team for every sport - I just like the idea of his being comfortable enough with each sport that when it comes time to play them in gym class he has some background!

This may be good for him. He has a goal but not a rebounder.

Thank you all so much for the suggestions!! If you think of more, please let me know!

Yes! DD is 5 this year and needs nothing. She still LOVES her dollhouse from several Christmases ago (loving family) but uses it with her lalaloopsy minis. We visit the toy section every trip to target and DD never is really struck by anything. She likes the lego friends sets but I don't feel like she's old enough. I loved American girl and begged for one as a kid. I've shown her the dolls and shes very ehhh about them. I want her to want one like I did if I'm dropping that kind of money. She likes the frozen stuff so I've stashed the few items I thought she'd like. I'm clueless this year!

Oh and her birthday is only 3 weeks from today. So birthday gifts will muck it all up too.

Ashley, if you're interested in an 18" doll, you might want to consider doing what I did:

I bought my DD (who's a li'l younger than yours, but she seems to have similar tastes, I think) a Gotz doll at PBK when my local store had its floor-model clearance. Spent HALF what AG charges & didn't have to muck about with shipping, etc., even with sales tax.

I saw a vet doll and chef doll on clearance at our local store, for example, and it's easy enough to pick up fun outfits & accessories at Target (the clothes & low shoes are great; don't get the rainboots, they're too hard to put on the Gotz doll's feet) until she grows into AG.
