Default My 2yo iMac is a lemon

I have a nearly 2yo iMac. We bought applecare. Thank goodness! We have to carry that sucker (27" monitor and it is heavy!) through the mall to the local apple store. The power supply has now been replaced twice. The second time, DH insisted that the whole thing be checked out. The tech got special permission to replace other parts (can't remember which but the repairs were substantial), had the repairs "signed off on" and that was that. Except when we picked it up they didn't do the repairs that we discussed! Still, it is SO annoying to take it in and get it fixed that we haven't taken it back yet to complain.

My applecare is about to expire and now my computer is making is a super annoying high pitched sound. I either have to wait for DH to take it in for me, get a babysitter or try to take it in with two little kids. DH is home for exactly one hour per weekday so this just stinks. I am NOT impressed with apple.

I'd advise you to call apple. Explain the series of issues. They'll likely declare it a lemon (you may have to work up the chain a bit) and send you a box to send it in. In my case like this they sent me a brand new computer to replace the lemon. It sucks to get a lemon, but it can happen with any electronic company. What matters is how they handle it, and Apple has always come through for me.

Yes, every time I've called for a computer that was still under AppleCare, they were able to send me a box, and I sent my computer in. Mine were fixable and returned in just a couple of days, with all problems resolved.

Just tell them flat out that you want another one. Be direct. I have never had a problem when I did that.

If you have AppleCare and it's still in force, it won't matter.

drag it back to the store or another store and complain. I bought my iPad refurbished and it didn't work right out of the box so I took it back and they replaced it right there on the spot.
