I've always liked that clock. It says the backlight can be turned on/off, so maybe that's ok?

I use my phone as my alarm and keep it upside down on my night table!

Looks like it isn't made anymore

But I did play with DS1's present last night, and it is pretty nice! The screen goes completely dark, and the projected time isn't super bright (and the red helps too). I haven't tested the alarms yet, I will report back in a week...

I am extremely light sensitive and found the following. They are dimmer sheets you can put over the digits to make them glow less, but with the new setup and clock I haven't needed it:
