Feeling very sad about family

I get it. Totally get it. I'm sorry. and yes, we have friends that are like family but deep down, its just now the same.

We don't face your level of dysfunction, but I feel for you and I do grieve for what we/my kids/my Dh are missing in not having a family that stands together. Sometimes I am so jealous of people who have great families.

My DH grew up in a small family far away from any living relatives. They went the route of finding friends who became like family - sharing holidays, exchanging gifts, going on vacations. I used to joke that DH called anyone he ever met "aunt" or "uncle" but now I see what a great thing it was that his parents found these other people who became like family to him.
