Actually, depending on the news source, there are 2-3 infants/toddlers so far who did not receive the full vax course due to age who now have measles. One is 22 months. Unfortunately many anti-vax people do not see this risk because they don't look beyond their own home.

But for all anyone knows it was originated from a newly vaccinated person or child. Until person X is located no one will ever know.

There is a case in Long Beach, CA as well and they listed four places where the person was on 01-03-15. Thankfully my DH was sick that day so I didn't run any of my normal errands, but had I done that I could have easily gone to the market on the list that day, which also houses my bank branch.

I hope everyone gets better soon.

Putting aside the part about the unvaccinated infants being incorrect, children don't chose to go unvaccinated, their parents chose for them.

The article I read said for measles, 2/1000 will die and 1 more will develop brain swelling leading to deafness or blindness. Those aren't statistics I would like to mess with, notwithstanding that the 51 infected have not had serious consequences from the measles.

Dr. Bob Sears had a very rational post about this:

Conclusion: "So, fear measles? No. Not in the U.S.. Respect measles? Yes. Take appropriate precautions with it. But don't let anyone tell you you should live in fear of it. Let's handle it calmly and without fear or blame."

I may be one of the few people here who has had the measles. It was absolutely wretched. I wouldn't wish it on anyone, and would take all steps to prevent people from getting it - and to eradicate it from the face of this earth.

My brother had it. He was too young to have any memory of it, but my mother said it was pretty awful.

I don't think I agree that it's a "rational post". His tone implies that people are overacting, and that measles are falsely made into a big deal.

I personally think it's a big deal and living in SoCal myself, the outbreaks are too close to home
