It also depends on your child's ability to walk. My DD4 has a rotated hip and it is hard for her to walk for a long time. She (and DD3 before her for the same problem) will probably need a stroller until age 4 or so, or longer.

We didn't get a double at first, but DS, who was 3.5 and really didn't need a stroller, got jealous that the baby always got to ride in HIS stroller while he had to walk. When we were at a living history museum where there was lots of walking, DS saw several side by side doubles and expressed that we needed one. I ended up being given one by a friend with older twins, so I didn't have to buy one. I was glad to have it for places like that with lots of walking. I don't think you NEED one, but you may like having one.
