Thanks ladies! So many good suggestions!

STRONGLY starting to lean towards/liking Ethan, which DH has liked all along. My biggest issue was no obvious nickname, but there's always "E" or I'm sure we can come up with something if we really wanted too. We try to pick names with good meanings and LOVE the meaning..."strength", fits in with the meaning of the other kids' names pretty nicely too I think (Lucas being 'light/bringer of light' and Matthew being 'gift of God'). Neither of us know any Ethan's (huge plus and almost never happens!) It was #20 in our state last year for popularity which isn't too bad, Lucas was #14. (Plus I asked a couple friends and they don't have any Ethan's in their preschools/daycares right now.)

    Maybe Ethan Alexander...

I'm a big fan of Benjamin. Ben is a great nickname too. Bennett is fine, but seems to be trying too hard. I love Tobias too. I am not so into name meanings, so I don't know if those have good meanings.

There are two Ethan's in DD's class. I like the name a lot. I don't think it's crazy popular though. Not like Noah and Henry, which are also great names.

I think having a popular name isn't such a big deal anymore. I've been thinking there seem to be more names in general these days, and an article I read in The Washington Post on names confirmed it. For the first time the top 100 girls names made up less than 50% of girls born. As opposed to the Great Jennifer Takeover of the 1970s.

I have an Ethan and we struggled between that and Alexander, which I still like. I also like Noah or Caleb.

As for Ethan being popular, I know it is, but we don't have a bunch around us and so far there haven't been any in his classes.

I called him baby Ben for a couple of days in utero, and it stuck. My other DS has Alexander as a middle, but I'm not a fan of Alex really.

I have a friend that has an Oliver and loved the name and her second son is Theo. Just throwing that out there in case you have the same style in common!

Other names that come up when I go on Nameberry and put in your children's name:

    Felix
    Jude
    Leo
    Owen
    Sebastian
