Default DD 10 passes 5 point test but should we have her in HBB on long car trip?

We are driving 15 hours to Disney in two weeks, so I have her in HBB for the trip in case she falls asleep? If so, which booster is recommended for children on the taller side?

I am guessing 57 inches but will measure her to confirm tomorrow. I know we recently said she was almost five feet tall but cannot recall the exact height.

DS1 was in a backless last year on our long car trip. He did fine sleeping. he doesn't slump like he did when he was younger. Does she still slump over when she sleeps in the car? If not, she might be just fine.

I wouldn't worry about the HBB if she passes the 5pt test. I don't think you're gaining extra safety.

Thanks, that puts my mind at ease. It has been so long since she fell asleep in the car I don't know if she would slump over.

my 12 year old is 5'1" and under 100 pounds. She uses a high back booster on trips. I am glad that she does because last night on the NJ Turnpike, we had to swerve hard and swerve back when someone slammed on brakes in front of us. Tires squealed and everything. Fortunately my husband kept control of the car. She was asleep and would have hit her head on the window without the headwings.

It's when the adult seatbelt fits properly: Butt all the way back, lap belt low on thighs, shoulderbelt on shoulder, feet flat on floor, and can sit that way the whole trip. It can happen as young as 8 in very small cars with very tall kids, but most kids need to be more like 10-12 and fully over 57" (up to 5 feet tall in large captain's chairs).
