DS (age 9) wants to be Indian Jones for Halloween. I need a Indy-style shirt for him. Any ideas? He wears a size 8 (he's tiny!). Ideally it would be ivory or light brown, and have some pockets.

Could you use this vest and just remove the patches with a seam ripper?

That is something I would look for at the thrift store. Don't overlook the men's and women's sections if you have a sewing machine and can just sew up the side seams to make it smaller. It doesn't have to fit perfectly for Halloween (plus, you can add layers underneath if it's cold that night!)
DS 2/09
I would just get a white/off white button up shirt, and focus on finding a "leather" jacket and the hat. Definitely check out thrift stores!

DS2 June 2011
We scored a real leather jacket for $15 at a thrift store the year ds was Indiana Jones.
Don't forget some facial scruff. A bit of brown eyeliner for facial hair works well.
DS7 was Indy last Halloween. He already had khaki docker type pants and a white button down shirt. I found a pleather jacket at KMart that he still wears, and added the hat, messenger bag and whip from amazon. I didn't even think of the facial scruff!
We did the Disney Halloween party, and he got so many compliments from both cast members and guests
