That sounds like a great little sewing machine! My DD has the one from Ikea, but the noise (oh my it's three times as loud as my Bernina) and the speed keep her from using it ...

Great update! After you posted about the Brother CS6000i I went on Amazon and returned the project runway model I bought and ordered the CS6000i. It was only $15 more than I paid. I know nothing about sewing, so I took your word for it that those features would be handy. DD will get her machine on Xmas day. I hope she likes it and enjoys sewing.

Which Project Runway model was $99? There are several models in that line, and one of them is virtually identical to the CS6000i. That is the XR9500PRW.

I kind of obsessed about this and one thing I liked is there are MANY online videos about using this machine. There is a whole series of very helpful set up videos here: http://www.sewingmastery.com/videos/cs6000i/

I also found this review site super helpful. http://www.erinsayssew.com/brother-c...achine-review/

It was the CS5055PRW. I went back and read thru the site on that machine and it only had a 1 year warranty. The CS6000i came with a much better warranty 25 years i think and phone support.

The Brother XR3140 has all the critical features of the CS600i - speed control, drop feed, needle up/down control - plus a few other bells and whistles like a monogramming font and quilting table. It is on sale for $149 at Costco right now ($40 discount). Good price especially considering the return policy.

That is a nice machine. I would do that vs. paying $150 for the CS6000i. But since I got it for $115 I am happy.

Yes I would be happy if I were you too! I actually had my eye on that one for a while- it came up as a lightning deal a few more times, but never that cheap again.

So keep the $99 Brother CS5055PRW? Great thanks!! I really have no idea about sewing machines - have lessons set up for DD so hoping she will set it up.
