Default Kohl's Cash- can I refuse it?

I want to buy some gifts for Christmas at Kohl's, but I have a feeling one might be returned. Can I deny the Kohl's Cash so that my gift recipient can get the full value of my purchase? I can't find the answer online.

They would get the full value as long as you don't redeem the Kohl's cash. So you can accept it, just don't use it. If you do use it, I believe it will be prorated across the items that you bought.

I never knew that! How do they keep track that it was not used?

It's in their computer. It's sort of like a gift card.

Yes, I think this is right....I once purchased a TON of stuff at Kohls (like, $500 worth) and got a huge amount of Kohls Cash. I didn't use any of the cash, and then went back and returned about $250 worth of the items. I got full refund value for the items -- but they did let me know that the amount of Kohl's Cash I received had been decreased. So I think if you don't spend your Kohls Cash, they'll be okay.

It's no problem to just not use the Kohl's cash. Just to clarify though, they don't prorate the KC on returns. If the returned item drops you below the threshold for earning Kohl's cash they subtract that full amount of KC from your return. So if you are earning $10 for every $50 spent and you buy $52, then return something worth $15 you will get $5 back because the full $10 KC is subtracted from your return. If the KC hasn't been spent or if it's okay with you to invalidate it they will return the full cost.
