    Default Evekeo? Update in 2 & 6

DD is going to start on Evekeo for her ADHD. Choices of meds were limited because she is not yet 6, so insurance and drug discount programs were limited as most meds have a minimum age of 6. Any BTDT with this med? Thoughts? TIA!

    Anyone, any experience?
Anyway, it's been two days, she is on a very low dose. I am seeing VERY slight improvement. Nothing huge or significant. One thing I have noticed is when it wears off, she is beyond awful. I am going to give it the weekend and call her doctor Monday if things don't improve. Thoughts?

This is a new med, and my kids have not been on this form of medication before.

But "afternoon rebound" is not unusual with long acting ADHD meds, and it does tend to get better with time. I would consider that she may need a higher dose and perhaps a short acting afternoon booster.

It more of an "evening rebound", It happens about 9/10 hours after she takes the medicine. But I am glad to hear it gets better. How long should I give it before taking to her doctor about increasing the dose?

It's different for every kid (and some do not experience it at all), but generally it happens when the meds fully wear off. And 9-10 hours later would be in the range for that.

I would call tomorrow if things have not improved. I would also let them know that the dosage does not seem effective.

    Update
She has gotten worse . Short tempered, irritable, hitting and throwing things at me. And that rebound period has been beyond awful. I spoke to her ped and they said because of her age, there is nothing else we can try (she is only 5). I don't think I am going to continue to give her the Evekeo.

I was thinking the same thing. Is there a psychiatrist she could see?

One of my DDs started stimulants at 5. It has been a while, but I believe we had to obtain a special approval from the insurance company by having the doctor submit specific documentation.

I have no experience with the specific medication you mentioned, but it sounds like it is not the right medication for your DD. I agree with Beth that rebound is normal, but the behavior you describe sounds like an extreme reaction.

As unpopular as this may be I have had my 4 year old (at the time) on stimulants and anti-psychotics because he was a danger to himself and others when un-medicated.

You may need to see a specialist as the pedi is not as well-versed nor as comfortable prescribing these classes of medications.

    Good Luck
