Default Full sized vs Mini crib

We gave DD1 the biggest bedroom. We had planned on one and done but then I turned 40 and had a personal crisis, so we are now expecting DD2.

However, her bedroom will be really tight with a crib, bookshelf, dresser, and glider. We have bifold closet doors, which eat up an unconscionable amount of space.

I'm looking at mini cribs because they seem reasonable size wise, but I don't really know because we bed shared with our 6 year old until she was 3, at which point she went into a twin bed. I'm too old for that now -- I need my sleep.

Will the mini crib last long enough to get her into a toddler bed or twin? Or should I go with full sized? There is no price difference, believe it or not, between the FP Newbury and the mini crib I'm looking at.

    Thanks!

Congrats on your new bundle! I don't know the dimensions of the minicrib, but I'm picturing that it's the size of a pack 'n play. In that case, I'd go for a full-size crib. My DD1 outgrew the pack 'n play by about 2 years old, but used her crib until she was 3. I would not have wanted to have to transition her out of a crib at 2. Also, many full-size cribs transition to toddler beds, so you'd save yourself another purchase if yours does that.

Our nursery is also a very small room. The rocker we have in the room actually just sits right in the middle of the room (because there really isn't any wall space for it). It looks silly, but it works! It doesn't really bother me -- I walk around it to get to the dresser (which has the changing station on top) and it's not a big deal. We don't really use her room to play or anything other than diaper changes and sleep, so it works for us.

It is the exact size of a PnP, which is why I was concerned.

We will have to put our glider in the middle of the room too. Our older daughter has a 5x5 Kallax on one wall but there isn't that kind of space in the smaller room. Fortunately, there is a closet organizer with lots of shelves in the smaller room. There is no room for a changing table but, honestly, it was a huge waste the first time (ok not as bad as the wipes warmer, but still) so I won't miss it.

    I would opt for a full-size crib over a dresser and/or bookcase.

Full size. We used a Graco Travel lite crib in our room for the first year. The mini-crib looks a little bigger than that, but not by much. There's no way it would have served us to the 2.5/3 year range when we moved them to the twin bed.

For us space isn't an issue, so I can't speak to that. But I have been thankful both my boys have been able to stay in a full size crib until well over three. I think a 3+ year old can transition better to a bed because they are more capable of understanding that they are supposed to stay put and not get up and leave their room a gazillion times before they fall asleep. Like you, I value my sleep and don't want to be constantly escorting a toddler back to bed. I've heard too many stories from friends IRL who've had to do that.
