Default is there a parent manual to survive the teenage years?

Seriously, is there a great book to read to help me through this time? We just have the one, DS is officially 12 1/2, but he might as well be a true teen. Nothing we are doing is working, lots of attitude, talking back, not knowing what homework is, complaining about everything. The list is endless.

thanks for any ideas and help.

Stop it now. its easier to correct the behavior at 12 1/2 than 16. You may have to go zero tolerance for attitude and transgressions it IS the age but this is the point you have to get tougher on the parenting. I've been there twice already and am in the middle of the attitude right now. Electronics seems to be his "love language" I take them and it gets his attention. And OMG the other day I actually made him stand in the corner. I told him he wanted to act like a toddler we would punish him as a toddler. My theory is hormones burns out the common sense part of their brain for a while. My 21 yr old told my 12 yr old... Dude don't piss mom off she will let you get way with a lot but if you cross the like life will suck for you for a LONG time.

I do need this. DS is not yet 12 and the cocky attitude is in overdrive.

I read untangled about tween/teen girls but so much of it applies to teens. I read it for DD (10) but so much applied and works with DS (13). Definitely address and call them out. A sense of humor while doing it helps.

Thank you for the book suggestions. I ordered them just now.
