Default ? about Nom Nom Paleo's Hawaiian pork...

can get away with using plain sea salt instead of the Hawaiian?

do I really have to use a 5lb roast? My family is not huge on left overs (and don't like eating the same thing for a week) and I am bad about taking meals out if the freezer so I think I would rather use a smaller roast, but can I do this?

I've made it in the instant pot a few times, with plain old sea salt and it was great! Smaller roast might need a little less cooking time.

Same here. I've done smaller amounts and have used sea salt.

FWIW I've found the pink Hawaiian sea salt at Cost Plus World Market. It's yummy!

Thanks! I ended up with a 4/1/2 lb. roast and thanks for the tip about Cost Plus for the sea salt. I will be making it tonight so I will let everyone know how it is on Wednesday.

I think Costco also sells the Himalayan pink sea salt in a pepper grinder style container.

Annie, how was it? I've considered making this a few times but haven't done so yet.

We ended up not eating it because I think I must have gotten a slightly expired piece of pork from the store (the sticker must have had a wrong date on it) and it smelled rancid when I took it out of the pot. I will try it again this week and let you know.
