Dansko sandals.
This wasn't my favorite style, but I love how the velcro at both ankle and forefoot allow a custom fit: https://www.dansko.com/Womens/Footwe...one%20Metallic
I like how this style looks like a heel, but doesn't feel like a heel: http://www.6pm.com/p/dansko-julie-ta...36/color/20025
I always get compliments on these: http://www.6pm.com/p/dansko-mabel-bl...32144/color/69
So based on this thread, I pulled out my lavender Keen Rose that I don't wear very often. They did look fine with full length black Athleta pants. I walked about two miles with the dog and also went to the grocery store. Although they are pretty comfy, especially the sole, my feet got sweaty. My feet never get sweaty. I can see that as a recipe for disaster walking long distances in hot European cities - definitely some blister possibilities. So back to my original suggestion - go with Birks. I did three days at Universal in 90 degree heat with various pairs of Birks and had no issues.
I have the Dansko Julie's! And paid more for them than I have any other sandal...and they just gather dust. I feel like I'm about to sprain my ankle when I wear them - they're tiring on my feet for short durations. I've invested in Dansko clogs, boots and sandals and they all cause me ankle pain. I'm one of the outliers for whom they don't work!
I'm going to hit REI tomorrow and try some on IRL as I'm running out of time even for Zappos. Will report back.

I will say that I wear Birks a lot in the summer, but I way prefer the Keen Rose for lots of walking. I actually think my Birks look more stylish than the Keen Rose (I have some nice looking Birks, including a brown croc embossed Gizah model), but I prefer the Keen Rose for walking. Of course, this just goes to show you that everybody (and their feet) are different, so who knows which shoe OP may prefer. My advice--try them both!
Sadly the Keen Roses are going back. I know that 90% of reviewers love them, but a few people, like me, had issues with the non-adjustable ankle strap that really aggravated my ankle pain - just wearing them around the house I could feel the pain radiating up to my knees. I'm sick or would go to REI or a local walking shoe store to try on some alternatives, but I might just stick to my tried and trusted Ahnu Maias. They're very cute and I've worn them for years. I won't be putting 10 miles a day on them - I'll probably wear (gulp) sneakers on those days through Pompeii or whatever. If I had a bit more time I'd have ordered these Cole Haans - they look great! http://m.zappos.com/p/cole-haan-zero...66/color/14179

They have those Cole Haans at the Livermore outlet for the 30% off price; I was sort of tempted by them last week when I was there, but decided against them as I didn't really need them.

On our last Europe trip I wore Merrell sandals most of the time. I don't see my style anymore but it's similar to this: https://www.amazon.com/Merrell-Women...attice-Sandal/
Since you mentioned liking the gladiator look maybe something like this? https://www.amazon.com/Merrell-Women...kle-Gladiator/
Whichever shoes you take I'd pack some moleskin and blister bandaids just in case, especially if you are breaking in new shoes.
My kids wear keens all the time, but the style just doesn't do it for me. I don't have that sort of style. I am an overpronator and my go to sandals for lots of walking are Fit Flops. I don't know how they'd work if there were ankle issues though. To me, they are super comfy for a lot of walking. Not the most stylish, but decent if you get the cuter styles. I have these...

I also ended up with multiple colors of these for the pool and baseball (since they can get wet and easily washed off). And they were way more comfy than I expected. Very basic, nothing stylish or unstylish about them.

I haven't ever tried the ankle strap version (I get irritated by ankle straps myself). Not the most stylish, but I like them way better than keens.

Remembered seeing this thread and had to swing back to post. Picked these up at DSW the other day, marked down to $99.xx with an additional 30% off, and they are seriously the most comfortable sandals I've ever had. I've been walking all over the place (we're on vacation right now) and my feet are as happy as if I were in a broken in pair of sandals. There has been zero rubbing or blisters. I'm totally shocked Bc I usually have a new-shoe-learning-curve. And there's no issue with support either. Loving them!! http://m.zappos.com/p/naot-footwear-...457/color/4658
