Default Are You Kidding? Because This is MESSED Up ...

So, apparently, my dad was up all night last night because his wife didn't come home until 5am.

Exactly why I know this is because ... my dad apparently doesn't know how to find mental health professionals because he just b!tches to his kids. He calls it "venting" but it's just b!tching with no advice, or whatever. Also, he's apparently a freakin' martyr.

I'm dodging his texts and commiserating with my brother and SIL.

    I am SO done.

You can try the "Dad, I love you too much to enable you." "You need to speak to a professional. Venting to me does not solve the problem and it ultimately makes it worse. Good bye." Then ignore all texts etc.

Sorry you are dealing with this.

Good advice. I didn't say it as eloquently, but when my system was have marriage difficulties and ultimately divorced, I kept suggesting she see a counselor. It helped me to have a response and let her know I can only do so much.

Thanks. I wish he had friends to vent to.

I may not have all that many people nearby, but I have friends to vent to about DH.

He called the other day close to the time I needed to leave to pick DD up from camp, so that actually worked in my favor to (1) limit the time I spent on the phone with him and (2) allowed me to dodge his issues.

I did explain to him that I had my own stuff I wasn't dealing with (if I'm being honest, I have my own stuff that I'm actively avoiding) and I couldn't get involved with his stuff.

    Thanks.

I think I actually told him he needed to go to a therapist, too. I love my dad, but I canNOT deal with his BS.

Next update? She's kicking him out. He has until 9/21 to find a new living situation and figure out storage of his stuff.

Add to the fact that my sister is currently homeless with no prospects because she's being an idiot and him looking for houseroom (which I, thankfully, cannot provide due to my distance from his crummy job) and all my personal issues that I'm dodging, I think I'm going to go insane.

But I'm not offering him houseroom and that's a step in the right direction.
