    Default Recommendations for Ski Jacket

I am hoping for a new jacket for our trip to Breckenridge for the holiday break. I am looking for something not too bulky, but not too fitted either. Are there any features that are recommended? Considering we live in FL, I will not use the coat often. As such, I would also appreciate suggestions for where to find best deals for Black Friday.

If you don’t need brand name stuff, go to Burlington (if you have them and if they have coats...no idea what would be in FL).

Will you be skiing in it? If yes, side vents so you can unzip them and get cool if overheated. A waist gaiter so snow doesn’t go in you pants when you fall.

If you won’t be skiing, then any down jacket will do. I have a $50 down coat I got from Costco years ago that I wear when visit family in MI at winter.

I plan to do some skiing, but low key due to health issues. We do have Burlington in town, but suspect ski clothes selection will be limited due to our locale. I think I will be better off shopping online.

Go for a bright color if your pants are black, so easier to see on the slopes. I have bright green pants and a black jacket. My jacket is a little short, I’d try a few and return what doesn’t work. A little longer is better to keep snow out of your pants.

Lands end has good quality stuff and great sales. The women’s down jacket will probably be $60 or less on Friday. While down isn’t the best to ski in, lots of people do and unless it’s actively snowing or you fall a ton, you will be fine.

The squall hooded jacket is another option.

Agree with niccig! DH has neon yellow pants and I got bright purple for this year with gray/black jackets. Kids have bright geeen and red jackets with black pants. Makes it soooo much easier to find each other.

I just purchased a new ski jacket from sierra trading post. It is a bright blue and yes, I always buy bright stuff for myself and kids so I can see them (usually a blur!).

Peter Glenn in Tampa https://www.peterglenn.com/ is where I got outfitted once, and that stuff lasted me for decades. I still have Sorel boots purchased there in 1995. Looking online at Dick's sporting goods right now for a pair of Sorels that are $78 that may replace them. https://www.dickssportinggoods.com/p...cmbrlndblckfbo

Since you are from FL and heading to Breckenridge, I would suggest you get a good jacket, even better pants, and excellent gloves. maybe it's because I'm in the process of being diagnosed with Reynaud's b/c my fingers and toes stay really cold, but a day I spent in Breckenridge in 2000 (as a Floridian at the time) was probably the coldest day of my life. It was also one of the most fun days!

Ski pants (or snowboard pants) are awesome. I like some Burton pants purchased in the past few years. REI has some Obermeyer stuff. Actually, once, I left my jacket in the house as I headed to the airport and had to go buy one slopeside in Steamboat. Because they have such a big selection and constant movement, I found one that was great and not crazy expensive.

my gloves are made by this brand, and they rock https://www.peterglenn.com/product/s...legend-ii-mitt

Thank you so much for the recommendations! We picked up LE gear for the kids since they had outgrown things from our last trip a few years ago. On that trip, the girls had bright bibs that really helped to spot them on the slopes. My pants are from Athleta, one of the few places I could find tall length at the time. They are comfortable and not too puffy. My loved my turquoise Athleta jacket, but it ripped around the zippers in multiple places on the first trip (Athleta graciously allowed me to return).

I may end up getting LE for me, but found a few other options I am considering and would appreciate input for style/function:

Would have to size up to a L: https://www.steepandcheap.com/marmot...FjQ2F0MjEwMDA0

    Harbor Blue: https://www.backcountry.com/the-nort...0xLWphY2tldHM=

    Zinc/spruce blue: https://www.backcountry.com/mountain...ktamFja2V0cw==

Turquoise (supposedly more teal IRL; has pit zip vents; may be my favorite unless there is compelling reason to get a 3 in 1): https://www.backcountry.com/basin-an...NraS1qYWNrZXRz

I had forgotten about Peter Glen and will check them out now. Thank you again!
