    Default First world problems-books

I set a personal challenge to myself to read 30 books by end of 2017. Maybe that was little bit too ambitious, as I have an account with Goodreads to help me keep on track of books I've read, books I want to read, etc. According to the stats on my profile, I've only read 13 books out of 30 so far.

Reading is one of my passions, but this is an area I honestly have little time for as it is, because most nights I crash by 9-10. I rarely read during the day due to many constant interruptions from my list to do of the day, kids, text/phone calls, errands, and working out.

My question to those of you...how many books do you average out a month reading? and how do you fit in the time to read? especially pertinent to moms of younger kids. or is it one of those things I'd just have to wait till my kids are more independent.

I for sure read about a book a month, thanks to book club! Then I read about another book or so a month (I read in spurts, but it averages out to about that) of parenting type books. It is hard to find time to read with little kids (my youngest is almost 3). I do most of my reading after they're in bed (only about an hour), and sometimes during her nap, and the rest on weekends whenever I can squeeze it in. A few of the ladies in my book club always do the audio book version of our monthly selection; unfortunately, I don't have much time to listen, either, and prefer to read an actual paper book. If I remember, I try to bring my book in the car if DH is driving and our family is going somewhere at least a half hour away.

Not what you wanted to hear, but I didn’t really start reading fiction or non-work-related non-fiction until I retired Long after I had an "empty nest," I still had enough professional reading that by the time I was through with that, I was ready to either crash or watch mindless TV. After I retired, I’ve been reading 6-10 books a month (and watching much higher quality TV!) despite being very active with a variety of volunteer activities. Guess I’m making up for lost time.

Yeah I might read 4 books a year. It’s sad but it’s reality right now. When I do read it is a binge thing on vacation or weekend. I try to be in bed by 10.

ok eta it’s likely 6 when I think about what I read. I don’t track. I should. I have listened to 4 audio books this year. They were great (but I don’t could that as reading per se)

I probably read 25 books a month. I've read 210 library books on my kindle this year so its about right.

I read every night before going to sleep and usually when I wake up before getting up as well. I also read alot on the weekends. The kids can get themselves cereal and watch tv or have computer time if they let me read. If they bug me, then their screen time is over too. I dont have a cell phone so no texting etc. my kids read alot too which helps - we often all pile into my bed and read our respective books 'together'.

I've made it more of a priority on and off over the years. It was a bit harder when the kids were smaller. Now that everyone is in school, I just try to always have a book with me. Much better to read than kill 15 minutes on my phone in pick-up lines.

I read 50 books this year and that's a great year for me. Partly because I went on a big YA kick reading the same books as my 5th grader. There are some great reads out there that don't take the focus of some of the other reads.

I also discovered audio books. Once again, in my car a lot.

I "read" exclusively listening to audiobooks while I drive. I average 25 to 30 a year.
