We have one very similar to this:
    https://www.amazon.com/Boogie-Board-...C?ref=ast_p_ep

No sleeve (I meant to make one. But never got around to it. We've had it at least 2 years and maybe 3. No problems). My 6 year old writes on it and fills it up now.

Ha! I thought you meant for surfing the waves. DS tried several brands over the summer and I was going to ask him which one he recommended!
DS Mar04, 8th grader. Life Scout. Being read Flash the Homeless Donkey.
GoldPup (golden retriever born Dec14); Big Boy Dog (1997 - 2008); Little Girl Dog (1997 - 2005); two 10-yo (2007-2017) huge goldfish we can no longer find in MIL's fish pond
Go Sharks! Go Mirai, Nathan, the Shib Sibs and Team USA
Recently read The Hate U Give (highly recommend) and The Noel Diary (ok, light). Starting A Dog Named Boo.
Pooh - "It's a beautiful day." Eeyore - "Not from where I'm sitting." Pooh - "Try standing next to me." From The Best Bear in All the World, Spring.

I have one. Kids are meh on it. They use it as a scratch pad for math homework. That's about it. Ours lives on the back of the front door and it's handy for me to leave a note if I'm not here when they get home from school.

We have bought 4 over the years and my kids love them but they are irritatingly not durable. Out of our 4, only one of them still works and my kids aren't rough on their stuff at all. So...I wouldn't recommend them, unfortunately. For girls anyway a cute journal with a "treat" pen (like a metallic gel pen or something cool) accomplishes almost the same thing and doesn't break. And stuff also doesn't get accidentally erased (yep - that happens and it's dramatic hahhahaha).

My kids loved it for a few days and were then over it. And it broke pretty fast - it stopped erasing. Luckily, I bought it at Costco so was able to take it back easily.

Thank you all so much for the reviews. My kids are rough on things, so this is a hard pass.

We have a regular Boogie Board bought off of Amazon and the Magic Sketch Boogie Board bought at Michaels with a 60% off coupon. We've had them for over a year now with no issues. DD is 6yo and we stress taking good care of her things. Personally, I love the rainbow colors of the Magic Sketch! She loves using it to trace and draw. It's awesome for playing high-turnover games; we play tic tac toe, hangman, and pictionary with it. We also love using it as scratch paper to keep score in other board games.
